Malacca - Steven Leong

Malacca

Malacca is a state in Malaysia; though it is quite a destination where tourists frequent, it is a place that doesn't receive much attention for photography.

Malacca's city center has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 7 July 2008. It was the location of one of the earliest Malay sultanates, the local monarchy was abolished when the Portuguese conquered it in 1511. The Dutch also left their mark on Malacca as evidenced by the famous Malacca landmark Stadthuys, the old Dutch City Hall. After the Dutch, the British took over Malacca for more than a hundred years.

Malacca is also one of the locations where the Straits-Chinese or Pernakan can be found, they are Chinese immigrants that came to the Malay archipelago several hundred years ago. In those years, they developed unique culture, food, clothing by the mixing of Chinese, Malay and other local cultures.
